Create your atmosphere

An atmosphere according to is a particular  environment or surrounding influence.

How your atmosphere can influence you.

The-5-Lessons-Of-Start-Up (2)

One morning I woke up with a question in my mind ‘Lord, what is next for me?’ I felt like I didn’t know what was required of me, I felt like God was not close. Regardless of my feelings I still read my bible and prayed. On my way to work while talking to God I heard in my spirit ‘Del you can create your own atmosphere’. My pastor would always mention this in his teachings. He would say ‘create and atmosphere where things can grow or not grow’. Immediately I began to pray, praise and sing unto the lord. In doing this I felt a shift in my spirit I felt near to God I felt his presence.

I shared this experience to say, no matter how you may feel, whose report would you believe? (Romans 1:16) I chose to believe the report of the lord. He gives beauty for ashes, oil of joy for mourning and the garment of praise for a heavy spirit (Isaiah 61:3).

He exchanges our stuff for his grace, we just have to be willing to partake in the exchange by manipulating our atmosphere.

That day I woke up in an atmosphere of not knowing and lack of purpose until I was reminded that I can change my atmosphere to be in alignment with Gods word. My feelings should not manipulate what I do or how I respond. Be conscience of your feelings, especially those that are contrary to the word of God. In this scenario I was defied by my feelings. Gods word said that he will never leave me nor forsake me, yet I did not feel close to him I wanted to feel his presence. On the other hand according to his word (James 4:8), I have to draw near to him and he will draw near to me. I believe that this scripture is saying create your atmosphere, I can’t draw near to God if my feelings and thoughts don’t represent him. We literally feel Gods presence when we press into him when we hunger and thirst for him, he can do nothing else but fill us with all of who he is (Matthew 5).

What is your present atmosphere?

Take a moment and think about this question . What situation, thoughts or feelings positive or negative, currently influence your behaviors and attitudes. We allow our feeling to influence our atmosphere *silent pause*. When we allow our feelings to govern how we act or think, we influence our atmosphere positively or negatively. Having a negative attitude toward your situation will influence how you respond to it and even how you talk to others who may have that same situation, it can even influence how we pray or lack of prayer. Our opinions on a matter should not and by no means be from our thoughts but from what the word of God says, so get to know God thoughts on a matter, get into his word.

How can I create my own atmosphere?

The Christ in me should influence my response and by extension my atmosphere.“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:16‬ ‭NIV‬‬. Our spirit man must rein all the time, when the negative influences (fleshly behavior) come, tap into the spirit man by walking In the fruit of the spirit. Our society is formed in such a way that negativity, pride, strife, worry, gossip, judgmental attitudes, criticism are seen as ‘normal’ behavior and responses to a situation once it doesn’t go our way. These fruits of the flesh infect our atmosphere having the sole purpose of invoking stress. I am an advocate for not allowing the norms of our society to influence how I operate, the life of Christ should. We as responsible individuals need to start a new normal in our homes and spheres of influence, turning around our atmosphere by demonstrating the fruit of the spirit regardless of how we feel see Galatians 5: 22-23.

If you don’t ‘feel’ a curtain way, ask yourself, how do I want to feel, then demonstrate how you want to feel by changing your atmosphere by the way you speak, pray and praise. Your feeling must obey!

What is the Fruit of the Spirit?

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Walking in the fruit of the spirit is a choice we have to make despite what the eyes can see. People who operate in an atmosphere of  bitterness and unforgiveness choose to operate in that sphere but don’t have to stay in that stressful atmosphere. The choice to create an atmosphere where the fruit of the spirit rein will free you from any  stressful situations, dear to try?

I recently lost my job because of a retrenchment exercise that was taking place at the company I worked for. When I received the dreaded ‘letter’, yes of course I cried my eyes out, but instead of turning to bitterness and pulling the blame card, I choose to believe that God has a greater plan in store for me. If I chose to operate in an atmosphere of hate and bitterness and all the evil that these can bring, I said to myself, “you know what, I will embrace this shift in my life and not stress or worry”. I activated a faith filled, peaceful atmosphere and chose to operate in a different spirit. Believe me that is a level of spiritual maturity that rise up in me that I myself am amazed at what God is doing through my attitudes and responses. Be encouraged!
