“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6 (NKJV)). As a result of our hunger our need for righteousness (right living or standing with God), God’s promise is that we shall be filled. How simple right? To be filled however, It’s therefore necessary that we make ourselves available for the filling, though our hunger.
Hunger is the evidence of humility that keeps us in that dependency mode on God and his word.
Deuteronomy 8:5 (NKJV) tells us that man should not live by bread alone – the physical things, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Just as Jesus did when he came on the earth – he began to do and teach. My hunger says something, it says that i am in need, i am in pursuit for the cause of Christ. One of the signs in the natural that there is an issue or illness is when there is no hunger. As a mother I know that something is amiss with my son if he is not eating. How much more in the Kingdom of God if we are not eating (seeking God first). For me, I find it necessary to get into my secret place everyday, when for some reason I don’t my day is usually not good. As I am sometimes not prepared for obstacles I may have to face in that day. According to father God we should live by his proceeding word, and we learn of him in that place of persuit.
In the natural we get hungry by not eating but in the kingdom of God we get hungry by eating. When i heard this for the first time i was like what! but this is true. The more we feed on the things of God the more we want, lets go a bit further… the more we need to live. Think about this for a minute, have you been stirred up the last time you heard about Jesus, a testimony, a encouraging word. That’s you feeding off of the hunger that is inside of you. Don’t be afraid of it. Remember to be hungry says that I am needy. I need of a new mindset, a transformation a relationship with Christ.
The importance of hunger and my transformation
We cannot live a transformed life by his proceeding word without being hungry. You see, God values hunger, our hunger demonstrates our ability to peruse him, his purpose for our lives, his kingdom and his presence. We find who we are in hunger, here is where revelation knowledge steps in. It’s not enough to know about God and his word but important that we live out what we know. As we feed from the place of hunger our influential ability grows. Let’s read Psalms 107:9,35-36 (NKJV): For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness….He turns a wilderness into pools of water, And dry land into watersprings. There He makes the hungry dwell, That they may establish a city for a dwelling place. God reserves the transforming ability to the hungry. The city which is our sphere of influence is encountered and transformed from dryness because of our hunger.
No wonder David was considered a man after God’s own heart. David stayed in that place of dependency on God for direction, strength, protection and forgiveness. He had abundance but he did not trust in that he trusted in Gods ability. That to me demonstrates living from the bread of life. John 6:35 (NKJV): And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. Read John 6 it speaks so much as it relates to the different levels of hunger one can have, it even shows the reason some people followed Christ, for food, the miracles or because they hunger and desired to be filled. It’s sad to know that only a few chose the latter, but God uses his disciples not the crowd. I choose to be a disciples not part of the crowd.
Bill Johnson said, The most challenging thing is to be hungry and full at the same time. Luke 1: 53 (NKJV) He has filled the hungry with good things, And the rich He has sent away empty. The rich man has everything that he physically need to live, he does not have to worry about what to eat, he dependency is on his ability. The Hungry however is dependant. No matter our value lets ensure that we stay in that place of hunger where we live from the bread of life. Our hunger should come as a result of us feeding.
Lets be that hungry people that will have a passion to change our environment, by allowing the kingdom that God has transferred to us his disciples to be released causing a great impact!
